Dato’ Mohd Nur Ismal bin Mohamed Kamal was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyHSR Corp) on 10 July 2020. He was also MyHSR Corp’s CEO from its inception in 2015 until 2019, when he led the company and the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR) project through various milestones.
Among the highlights were the Bilateral Agreement signing between the Government of Malaysia and the Government of the Republic of Singapore, launch of the seven Malaysian HSR stations’ concept designs, completion of the Public Inspection exercise, selection of the Project Delivery Partners for the local civil works, and many others.
No stranger to the Malaysian public transportation industry, Dato’ Mohd Nur has realised a number of key accomplishments in his role as the CEO of the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) between 2008 and 2015, including the successful launch of the Go-KL bus services, development of the country’s first Bus Rapid Transit system, and development of the National Land Public Transport Masterplan which helped set the vision and direction for the public transport industry in Malaysia. The Greater Kuala Lumpur/ Klang Valley Land Public Transport Master Plan that he led had also laid the foundation for the construction of MRT 1, 2, and 3, LRT 3, Subang Skypark link as well as the KL-SG HSR development.
A regular speaker at various rail conferences locally and abroad, Dato’ Mohd Nur brings with him over two decades of diversified experience both internationally and locally having served in management consultancy firms AT Kearney and Accenture, as well as in DRB-HICOM Bhd. He also led the development of the critically-acclaimed National Higher Education Action Plan at the Ministry of Higher Education.
With his strategic vision and insights, Dato’ Mohd Nur was also engaged as a Special Adviser to the Ministry of Transport where he successfully led the Urban Public Transport Lab under the Government Transformation Programme in developing high impact initiatives to improve Klang Valley’s public transport system. He also led the initial efforts in developing the concept for the MRT project up to its successful launch.
Dato’ Mohd Nur holds a Master of Business Administration in Strategy, Finance and Marketing from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University in Illinois. He also has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Finance and Decision Sciences from the University of Denver in Colorado.
